Pretty blown away by this place. So much attention to detail in the dishes, everything feels very intentional and very much not-gimmicky. Although not on the low-end price wise, still very fairly priced, it feels great to pay top dollar for such a high quality experience. Great service, great wine selection. May the chicken oysters melt your heart as they melt in your mouth

Very yummy yakitori and other skewers! This is a cute little place so definitely not good for big parties. There's a bar area and maybe 6 small tables inside and 3 more outside. I was here with 1 friend and it was great because we were able to share everything. The portions are really small. We ordered maybe 10 things and thought we overdid but it was just right. My favorite was the prawn dish! It was flavorful and fresh. The clam soup was just so-so and there was 1 clam that was very sandy and bad. Should've skipped that one. The hojicha soft serve and yuzu panna cotta desserts were amazing though and I would definitely have those again! There's a valet outside for $12, but if you're willing to walk, street parking is free up the hill. Service was also attentive and prompt. They really paid attention to when we finished our food before they brought out the next dish so that our table wasn't too crowded. Overall a great experience and will come again!

good place for a nice dinner vibe. some dishes were great, others were a bit average. i'd be down to go again if someone else wanted to, so that i could try other dishes. but i'm not as eager to go again for myself. food: - japanese latkes - me and my friend's favorite thing. the potatoes were warm and crispy, and the fish and roe had great texture and flavor. would have eaten more of these over everything else! - chawanmushi - this dish seemed really hyped, so i was excited to try it. i'm sure it's well made, but it just didn't blow my mind. the eggs were soft and the crab tasted good, but it didn't seem that special in terms of flavor. but it wasn't bad either. - chicken gizzard skewers - my friend ordered these and enjoyed them. the texture was not for me though.. strangely crunchy feeling haha - pork jowl skewers - honestly delicious, but most pork jowl is.... - black cod - flavor was great, cod texture was alright. quite small pieces but i know cod usualy is on the expensive side - yaki-onigiri - tasted fine and loved the crunch, but we were a bit surprised that there wasn't anything special about it. we liked the pickles it came with though. - overall - the japanese latkes were such a great start, but i think everything went a bit downhill from there.. just nothing so amazing that makes me want to eat it again. however, there were so many things on the menu that also sounded good, so i'd still be down to try all of those someday. ambiance: i really enjoyed the ambiance! it's a very small restaurant, so i was sitting very close to the parties next to me. but it feels high end and nice. the service was great. they advised us on how much food to order, and answered my questions on how to eat certain things. parking: if you're willing to walk a bit, you can find some street parking in the neighborhood. i came for a 5:30 reservation and we found street parking that was 5 min walk away. i hear it can be crazier when there are events at the dodger's stadium though. valet is $12.

This was honestly one of my most memorable and outstanding dining experiences of the year! Created by Chef Charles Namba and Courtney Kaplan, Tsubaki highlights Namba's repertoire of raw, steamed, fried and grilled dishes, matched equally by Kaplan's extraordinary sake program. This is a small, intimate restaurant with a very cheerful and peaceful vibe. We went for dinner around 5 pm and were warmly welcomed. Service was friendly and exceptional, and ambience and decor is great. Among the dishes that we tried were: - Japanese Caesar salad: Market lettuces, bonito threads, panko, miso Parmesan dressing; - Soft shell crab tempura; - Corn salad; - Kyabetsu miso kushiyaki: cabbage skewers, carmelized leek - miso butter; - Tempura vegetables; - Yakitori: Charcoal grilled chicken skewers - "Soriresu" - chicken oysters; - Fried rice; -Hoji-cha soft cream: Roasted green tea-infused soft serve - Blueberry + Calimyrna fig crumble with ginger crème fraiche, Sanontou brown sugar streusel. Everything was absolutely delicious. Seasoning was delicate and perfect all around. I had been wanting to try the Japanese Caesar Salad, which I absolutely loved, and it did not disappoint. Such an amazing and unique take on one of my favorite salads, and so refreshing! The tempura was perfectly fried and the yakitori chicken oysters were great. We ended a great dinner with the Blueberry and Calimyrna fig crumble with ginger crème fraiche and brown sugar streusel--- so delectable --- we loved it! Overall a wonderful dining experience. They do have valet parking, but I found street parking up the hill. Highly recommended!

Made a reservation about a week in advance on Resy (note: account for babies in the reservation!) for 3 for our anniversary. Highlights: - Charwanmushi: the best charwanmushi I've ever had! Adding dungeness crab to anything makes it taste good tbh. But the egg was perfectly cooked and delicious! Definitely recommend. - wagyu skewer: I think this was my favorite dish of the night. Perfectly cooked melt in your mouth goodness with the perfect sauce. I'd order 10 if we could! - Japanese Caesar salad: definitely recommend. It's a simple dish, large portions, and I've never tried anything like it before. Loaded with bonito flakes! - Japanese latkes (potato cakes): perfect balance of flavor, i really enjoyed this dish. Just ok: - cabbage skewers - black cod - hojicha parfait: I'd recommend just getting the soft serve Service was great, I was anxious bringing a newborn with us but the staff was so friendly and kind to us that it was definitely manageable. Note: no changing tables in the bathroom! Parking is a bit difficult, came at 5 and the valet wasn't open (but I also didn't see a stand). Ended up street parking which was ok. FYI: they charge a 4% fee for healthy LA for benefits for their employees.

Good luck finding parking in the area, so be prepared for $12 valet. The restaurant is tiny, so not ideal for big parties. The food is excellent though. We enjoyed every single dish. The standouts were Japanese Caesar, King Trumpet Mushroom Skewers and Soy- Simmered Black Cod. The salad was ginormous (too much for us two) and burst with flavor. The mushroom, in a generous amount, was perfectly grilled. The cod was flakey and surprisingly big. Who would've thought that Cabbage Skewers could be so delicious? Japanese Latkes/potato pancakes were on point topped with a generous amount of salmon. Unfortunately, I did make a mess. We also tried Juicy Lucy Burger/Potato Croquettes which were very good except that I'm not a fan of the cheddar in the center. The trio of Japanese Pickles was appetizing. We preferred the radish and pears over the cabbage with a hint of bitterness. Of course I had to try the Hojicha Parfait. The hojicha flavor was very subtle compared to the real deal, and the inclusion of miso was interesting. I personally could do without miso, but candied walnuts were a nice touch. I highly recommend Tsubaki. The service was personable and attentive.

Our group of 7 had dinner on the patio on a Thursday night and had a fantastic time. Service was pretty good for a larger, louder party. Our waiter was excellent and friendly - and patient with our group. Food came out slowly, but surely, and was worth the wait. We ordered a lot of different items on the menu, but what stood out to us the most - Dragon Tongue Tempura, Buta Rosu Shio Koji-Yaki (pork loin), Tebasaki Yakitori (chicken wings), and the Hojicha Soft Serve. We also enjoyed the Japanese "Caesar" Salad - but who doesn't enjoy a Caesar! The patio is the perfect place to dine on a cool, summer night. Watching the sunset and enjoying food with your friends - drinking sake during golden hour - Tsubaki is the place to dine! Service 5/5 Atmosphere 4.5/5 Overall 4.5/5

We finally got the chance to eat a Tsubaki! We came with a party of seven and got to enjoy many dishes. The restaurant itself is not the biggest, so come with small parties or make a reservation in advance like we did. There is valet or street parking. Our large party was sat outside, and we were more than happy to dine al fresco. Summer nights are the best in LA and we were all comfortable, even late into our dinner. Some standout dishes for our table were the Japanese Caesar salad, the pork loin, and all the different traditional Izakaya meat skewers. Some of the girls shared the hojicha soft serve to end the meal and really enjoyed their dessert! The sake selections were excellent. Big shout out to the staff for making great recommendations - we went thru at least 4 bottles. Food (imo) is meant to be shared like this - with a large group of friends, outdoors in great weather, over a bottle or four of good liquor, plus many laughs and wonderful conversation. We had such a good time Tsubaki! We will be back.

" ok! come on! Silverlake ? From WeHo? Really???" I say to my friend who made this suggestion. But what a great suggestion it was Tsubaki, an Izakaya in Silverlake is the place to dine. Even if you have to drive, Uber, Lyft or Public Trans to get there, DO IT! I had the pleasure of meeting Courtney Kaplan, owner and Somalier of Tsubaki (and also OTOTO next door). She was polite and explained her concept of Sake and her Izakaya dishes. Food 5 stars- I can't recall all the dishes as I just did my job of eating the yummy food, Ambiance 5 stars- Pretty open air type feeling, Service 5 stars- our waiter did an excellent job of serving us and making recommendations on what we should try Pricing 4 stars- pricey; but good. And I'm not sure because I was a guest here but maybe they already add tip to the tab when you check out. Be sure you ask; only because I overheard my host talking about it. Location? well it depends of whether or not you are a Silverlake resident and its a small Establishment on the corner of Allison and Sunset in Silverlake. Note that parking is an issue so you'll have to hunt for street parking or, they do offer value parking service. I suggest reservations as they appeared to get busy as the hours ticked by. (TIP AND SUGGESTION- go early like 4:30 or so on the weekends and try the Sake School recommendations next door at OTOTO, then go to TSUBAKI for their Izakaya.... look at it this way, if you valeted your vehicle, you got to enjoy 2 establishments for the price of 1 valet)
